Therapeutic Coconut Oil Massage

As with most tropical countries, coconut oil is very popular in Sri Lanka as well. Apart from it’s dietary goodness, it also makes a wonderful massage oil. We use it as the base for all of our massages unless requested otherwise by the client (which is very rare – coconut oil is awesome, so why would they want to reject it?)

Studies on individuals with dry skin show that coconut oil can improve the moisture and lipid content of the skin, and that it is as effective and safe as mineral oil when used as a moisturizer. Coconut oil can also be very protective against hair damage and scientific studies have shown its effectiveness as sunscreen, blocking about 20% of the sun’s ultraviolet rays.

Coconut oil is a very light oil that is easily absorbed into the skin. In fact, it is absorbed so quickly that some massage therapists mix it two-to-one with olive oil to make it thicker. This property means it gets to work faster spreading its wealth of healing powers.

Coconut oil’s lauric acid kills any stray fungi, bacteria or viruses hanging out on your skin waiting to make you ill. In fact, if you have any open sores, it helps them to heal faster. Studies show that coconut oil kills pathogens that cause influenza, measles, herpes, ulcers, UTI’s, pneumonia, candidiasis, ringworm and athlete’s foot.

Coconut oil contains vitamin E, which is known as the skin vitamin. It helps moisturize, revitalize, heal and protect your skin. It is all natural, unlike mineral oil, but moisturizes just as well. It is beneficial for treating skin problems such as eczema, psoriasis and dermatitis.

An added bonus to a coconut oil massage is that is does not stain your clothes. If any of the oil gets onto your clothing, it washes out very easily, unlike other oils. Plus, it smells great. Get a coconut oil massage from Krishna, and feel the magic yourself.

Sensual Tantra Massage for Women

Tantra is an ancient form of conscious spiritual practice that draws on the healing powers of sexual energy. Though nowadays primarily associated with ‘sexual acrobatics’ by most people, true Tantra is about opening the heart and sensuality to promote change, transformation, vitality and love.

Literally, Tantra means “weaving” in Sanskrit. In Tantric practices, kundalini—the spiritual energy—is naturally woven together with our sexual energy in our body. Tantra integrates and weaves spirituality and sexuality for healthy wholeness. According to the early teachings, everything is Tantra: the way we treat each other, the way we breathe, the way we care for ourselves, the way we love.

The Yogini Tantra Massage session designed by me, currently offered in Colombo, is a ritual of receiving the sensual kundalini energy flowing through the entire body. Throughout the session, you are given time to feel your body being explored without goals. Ayurveda therapeutic elements, energetic healing and tantric coaching are added to the ecstasy of receiving the nurturing and awakening sensual massage. My touch is gentle and relaxing, responding to your subtle body’s imbalances and emotional needs, as well as deeper with emphasis on the physical body for muscular relief. The environment is created in which you can release stress and feel more alive in your body while staying fully present to your feelings, emotions and thoughts.

The experiences and feelings that a woman may have during the Tantra massage can be very different, ranging from anger, lust, sadness, or even indifference. Everything is possible and everything is allowed. The Tantra massage is not about focusing on a special kind of feeling or fulfilling a particular expectation. The idea is simply to witness the receiver and to honor and respect her feminine nature as a divine Goddess.

A Tantra Massage Session

Now that we have a general idea about the underlying philosophy and objectives of Tantra, let’s look at what a typical Tantra massage session at Colombo Massage consists of.

After I arrive at your home, hotel or apartment, I will greet you, introduce myself, and we can talk about the session, about whatever you’d like as I begin to set up the space within the room. You will have taken a shower or bath beforehand, and when it’s time for the massage, you will be covered with a sheet to ensure your warmth and comfort.

A Tantric session is often the first step in learning to be a sexual being without going into fantasy or “spacing out”. You experience how to truly feel your body as it is being touched and aroused sensually, to be in the present moment, aware and alive. The massage begins face down with guided relaxation and breathing. Your comfort and sense of safety is of utmost importance. Starting face down is a very safe, nurturing position enveloping the heart and intimate areas. I will place my hands on your back, staying still as caring and calming energy flows throughout your body. The session will go at the speed which you are most comfortable.

My intuition guides my hands as I work with the energy, gliding from your toes slowly upwards toward the crown of your head, then back down, breathing deeply, and connecting you with the circular breath, (in through nose, out through mouth) and flow of energy within your body. When the back massage naturally comes to a conclusion, I will ask you to slowly flip over. I will then gently place my hands on your heart. As you breathe you will start to feel good, sad, mad, joyous, your mind may wander or think this is silly… Just let yourself have these feelings. Take a breath and come back to the present moment.

The session will go one second at a time, one touch at a time. Each part will be explored as if never touched before. The sensations will vary from very light touch to deep exploration. You will be encouraged to let me know how you are feeling. Often when an intense pleasure or emotion surfaces, we hold our breath. This shuts off our resources and makes it more difficult to move the energy, so if this happens I will gently remind you to continue taking deep breaths. Relax, surrender in the moment, and enjoy receiving the massage.

Slowly as the session comes to a close, you will be given time to come back and bask in the wonderful energy that has been created. You will be comforted with light gentle touch all over your body, wrapped in the warm blanket, and allowed to relax and regroup.

After the session, it’s always a good idea to drink and eat something. And we can chat about your experience and how you are feeling.

Ayurveda Abhyanga Massage in Colombo

Abhyanga full body massage is the very popular option among my clients, with good reason. It is one of the single most important practices one can incorporate into their daily routine to help maintain a healthy body. A daily abhyanga massage is not practical for most of us, but it’s a worthy treatment to take regularly.

The meaning of ‘Abhyanga,’ is the application of oil to the body. The massage involves liberally covering the client in oil and then using smooth, gentle movements to rub the oil deeply into the body.

Traditionally, abhyanga massage is performed in the morning, to clarify the mind and stimulate the client for the day. However, this is not always an option for my clients, so I conduct the massage in the afternoons and evenings too. The client lies unclothed on a bed (it’s rare to find a massage table on an outcall visit), and I pour specially formulated oil over her body. Coconut oil is used as the base, and herbal oils are mixed based on the dosha (body characteristics) of the client. The oil is allowed to soak in for several minutes before the massage begins, using rhythmic, gentle strokes with the whole palm.

Abhyanga massage differs from many Western massage techniques in that it is not deep. It is meant to nourish the body with touch and rich oil, and while it certainly promotes healthy circulation and and joints, it does not deeply penetrate the soft tissues of the body. My variant of Abhyanga is sensual, with slow and thorough strokes that gently stimulate the nerve endings and equally generates a return to balance of the nerves.

After the massage is over, the client is encouraged wait for 15 minutes or more, then to shower or take a warm bath to encourage absorption of the oil. A regular routine of abhyanga massage can be very beneficial for the skin.
